Nobody has ever seen anything like this.  If it weren’t for this bad actor, this very rude and terrible reality show host, America would have continued to snooze comfortably in its democratic cradle.  America is getting educated like never before.

The Obama years were relatively ethical, diplomatic, and reassuring for logical, rational beings who are not offended when two consenting adults want to make a commitment to take care of each other.

During the Obama administration, women impregnated by rapists or perverse uncles enjoyed the minimal relief of being free to limit the violence done to them without risk of jail, bleeding out, or permanent damage caused by infection.  During the Obama era, innocent survivors of gross violence would not be punished with nine months of torture.

Never mind all that boring stuff.  The important thing today is that the Trump brand is educating America.  Never before have television news reporters had so many opportunities to enlighten voters on the real-time applications of the U.S. Constitution.  We are learning more about what our founders built because the limits of presidential power are being tested daily by a greedy power broker.  That will be the legacy of the Trump administration and the failure of the Republican majority of 2017-2018.  constitution-1486010_1280We The People have learned more about the meaning of Checks and Balances than we ever would have if we had not experienced seeing what happens when you allow an authoritarian-loving, sociopathic, narcissistic, fake billionaire to become the head of the Executive Branch.

The Purple Wave of November 2018 demonstrates the newly educated voter.  Keep up the good work, Free Press.

Putin’s Odd Bluff

3 Mar

I woke up this morning wondering why our president has said nothing in response to Putin’s wild claim to have super-duper nukes against which no one on Earth can defend themselves.  Why–and how–could Trump remain silent?  Absolute silence.  Mum.  Nada.  Not one word.  Not a tweet.  Why?

Furthermore, I wondered if anyone had said anything–did any world leader react?  I have been watching and reading the news since the Winter Olympics ended and there is nothing much else (unless you like soaps) to watch…and I couldn’t recall a single reaction.

Vladimir PutinPutin stood up and said to the world that he has an invincible nuclear missile system, and his little animated video game showed what looked like Florida as its target.  Why Florida?  It left me wondering.  But before I get to these musings, I want to pause and thank @haltman for his article in the Tampa Bay Times, Why did Putin target Tampa Bay?

After a cup of coffee, I opened my Google News feed and searched ‘Putin’.  One of the headlines found was Fox News featuring the opinions of Condoleezza Rice.  Now, I am not a fan of Fox News, but I do tune in from time to time to see what they’ve got to say about certain things–I do not want to live in a bubble, so I do look into what they’re highlighting.  Usually, I do not fall for their click-bait, but today I clicked, on Condoleezza Rice mocks Putin over ‘absurd’ missile threatsScreen Shot 2018-03-03 at 7.30.08 AMNot only am I genuinely interested in Ms. Rice’s viewpoints, I found it curious that this was the only headline I saw where any leader, or former world-stage leader, had anything to say in response.  Isn’t that odd?

The North Korean leader announced he has an ICBM with a nuclear warhead that can reach Chicago, and there is a reaction, not only from our president, but from other world leaders.  Putin stands up and claims Russia can take out anyone anywhere and there is nothing they can do to stop it, and … crickets.  Oh, except Ms. Rice, a former U.S. Secretary of State, calls him out.  That’s hilarious!

Still, it gnaws on my imagination … why and how could Trump be silent?  He seems incapable of restraint unless there are dire consequences hurting himself.  What has Putin got on him?  In 2013 Trump hosted the Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow (and was paid $12M for it).  Following that he gushed like a starstruck kid gazing at a teen magazine.  Then when confronted with questions about Russians helping him to win the election, he back-peddled and said he didn’t know Putin, never talked to him, had no business with Russia.  Now, Putin threatens the U.S. and Trump is mum.  It’s odd.

Putin’s bluff itself is odd.  But here is what is more odd:  Putin seems comfortable gambling that Trump would not call him out.  Isn’t that peculiar?  What makes Putin so comfortable making public threats against the U.S.?

The whole thing is peculiar.  The leader of Russia stood up and basically said, ‘We have the power to obliterate the U.S. and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.’  And the leader of the U.S. said…not one word.

The Real American Horror Story is a Lack of Vision

10 Dec

Nothing speaks more clearly of the real American horror story than the lukewarm election of a spoiled brat. More than 90,000,000 registered voters amplified the disturbed sounds of silence, while 62,793,872 gambled on the fantasies of a liar, and 65,432,202 voted for someone with a clue.

Supposedly this election was about the economy. Let’s clarify one certainty for former factory workers in the USA: jobs that have been replaced by automation will never come back. If you are among that demographic, you need to move on. You need to use all the resources available in your community to help you find a new occupation. Factory jobs are not coming back. Your jobs are gone. They did not go to Asia and South America, they went to robots. They went to robots because too many workers were injured by repetitive motion and dangerous occupations. You cannot compete with robots; they’re safer and more efficient.

Displaced workers in America are looking in the wrong places for help. What you need is a society and leadership that progresses toward Gene Roddenberry’s vision. Notice in Star Trek that there is no money at all. All basic needs are met. It’s a non issue.

“…the problem isn’t the problem; the problem is how you approach the problem.” -George Theakos, MMA Trainer

The fact is that the natural resources available to us on Earth can support billions of human beings quite comfortably. We have the technology to grow plenty of food for everyone. We have the means to provide clean water to everyone. We have the know-how and materials to supply everyone with electricity and plumbing. The only thing that has been missing is motive.

Motive is missing not merely because people cling to the comfort of familiar things. Motive is missing because too many people are in the dark.

America can be a shining city on a hill, but not by demagogue. The real American horror story can be rewritten. It can be a real thriller. It can have a satisfying ending that ignites anticipation of a great series. What we need is light.

Where does one find light? In higher education. Knowledge is power.

Instead of staring at your dead occupation and clinging to an old familiar way of providing for your family, invest your time in free education. It surrounds you. Learn how to use the internet. Go to a library. Call your local elected officials and demand occupational rehabilitation programs. Free tutorials exist everywhere online. Stop treating alternative occupations as if they are inaccessible when the truth is you have been unwilling to adapt. Stop being a zombie. Prove that you are alive and well–show some creativity, flexibility, and pride in being willing to own your thoughts and change your approach to solving your problems. As a dear friend of mine teaches, “More often than not, the problem isn’t the problem; the problem is how you approach the problem.”

Conclusion: the real American horror story is a lack of vision.

Exodus from Social Media Flame Wars

10 Nov

On Tuesday night before any news show would call the election, when it was still too close to call in most battleground states, when it was becoming rapidly apparent that something was very wrong with this picture… that is when the exodus from social media began. News reports indicate that Stephen King is among the many who are abandoning Facebook, Twitter and other inflammatory sites. Before any of this, I deactivated my Facebook and Twitter accounts on Tuesday night and, seeing the stock market falling, I went to Fidelity Investments site and placed orders to move all of my 401(k) and IRA investments from stocks to bonds. All I can do now is stop the bleeding.

Many Americans cannot stomach any more of the nonsense.  It is an exercise in madness to continue to discuss, debate, refute, post facts… we are now living in Trumpland.  It is nauseating, and for some of us, we simply cannot bear the chatter.

We thought we could make a difference.  We thought we could share factual information and persuade Millenials and Bernie supporters that Hillary was the best choice and only qualified candidate.  Now it’s too late.  The GOP has the power.  The Supreme Court will be conservative for years to come.  They won.  We lost.

The exodus is happening because millions of sane people cannot stomach this debate to continue for four more years.  We fully thought it would be settled on Tuesday night.  We were ready to sympathize.  Now, there is no sympathy for us.  Only gloating by followers of a male chauvinist pig.  America put a pedophile in power.  It is the most shameful thing that has ever happened in this country.  An admitted groper, a man who has a long history of abusing power, will receive the nuclear codes in three months, and there is nothing, not one thing, we can legally do about it.

So we get back to work, live our lives, in our states.  For me, I hang my head in shame, no longer will I identify as an American.  I am a Californian.peace-and-independence

  • Edit Nov 14:  I joined the California National Party and will vote Yes on the Calexit referendum on the 2019 Spring ballot.
